Butler University botanist Dr. Rebecca Dolan conducted an inventory of plant species found on the Cold Spring School property.
This survey, conducted in 2004, was paid for with the Marathon Oil clean-up money. Dolan identified 314 species on the site, some indicating remnants of a former fen habitat, although the site had been greatly disturbed.
Each native plant was assigned a “c” value or conservation coefficient in the range of 0 to 10, with higher values meaning a species is more likely to be found in high-quality habitat. Non-native plants were also inventoried (marked N/A in the species list). The Excel file includes links to the USDA PLANTS site for photos and other information. Dolan also prepared herbarium sheets which were donated to the school.
